‘It’s gorgeous’: This KC-based skin care company is opening a Johnson County store

Former nutritionist Stephanie Hamilton saw a marked change in her clients who switched from “toxic” to all-natural skin products.

That’s why, in 2009, she began mixing organic ingredients to formulate her own lip balms, moisturizers, lotions and what have you. Her brand, Skin, has an extensive list of ingredients on the no-go list — parabens, synthetic fragrances and dyes being a few of them.

At Skin: The Clean Beauty Store in downtown Overland Park, 7304 W. 80th St., she’ll sell her organic products that she manufactures on site. She’ll also offer clean favorites from other brands: teas, pet products, cosmetics and other wellness items.

“In my ingredients are tried and true butters and oils,” she said. “Specific essential oils that heal and have specific duties in products.”

Hamilton plans to open in the former Hatch + Home space, next to The Bottle Shop. She’s targeting to serve her first customer in early June.

This will be Hamilton’s second skin care shop. Her Brookside spot, at 6247 Brookside Plaza, opened seven years ago. But, as Hamilton pointed out, the new location will be about three times the size.

“This opportunity came, and I’m getting to build from scratch, and it’s gorgeous,” she said. “I’m super excited about it.”

Hamilton sells her products online, at skinkc.com. Her most popular skin elixir is her daily greens moisturizer, a hydrating mixture featuring shea butter, mango butter, green tea, aloe vera, blue/green algae and grapefruit seed oil.

To quench a dry pout, customers can try her lemon lips shiny balm (castor oil, beeswax, vitamin E oil and lemon essential oil).

Stinky pits? Hamilton has you covered there, too. Her peppermint-flavored sticks of coconut oil, castor oil, bee’s wax, arrowroot powder and vitamin E aim to vanquish B.O.

She’ll also offer facials (using Skin products, of course).

Hamilton said she’s especially excited to join the hip-and-happening downtown Overland Park, which recently added an array of other businesses to its roster. Cien Por Ciento Mexicana: Red Kitchen KC opened at the beginning of this year.

Two women-owned bookshops — The Pretty Posy and Monstera’s Books — opened last month just down the street from each other.

Across the street, the Flying Cow Gelato and Annedore’s Fine Chocolates combo shop is getting ready to open, though its official opening date has yet to be announced.
