Google Searches Reveal the Top Trending Workouts of 2023

Google has released its annual Year in Search to gain insight on what users around the world were searching for in 2023, a year that also happens to mark the 25th anniversary of the company. And because the data is broken down by category, the list provides insight on which workouts have been trending over the past 12 months.

According to the data—which reflects not the top searches, but the top trending searches—wall Pilates had the highest spikes in traffic in 2023 as compared to 2022. If you haven't already seen the workout on TikTok or elsewhere on social media, wall Pilates are similar to traditional Pilates exercises, but uses the assistance of a wall to mimic the foot bar used in reformer Pilates classes.

In second place is the Tom Platz leg workout, a lower-body routine popular among bodybuilders, named for one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time.

Next is the Somatic workout, a type of yoga or stretching that helps release muscular tension through natural, unintentional movements. The LE SSERAFIM workout, in fourth, likewise takes a holistic approach to fitness by combining cardio workouts, strength training, flexibility exercises, and mindfulness activities to help improve cardiovascular endurance while promoting muscular strength and flexibility.

Rounding out the top five are mini steppers, compact exercise machines that simulate stair climbing for a lower-body, cardiovascular workout. Because the machines are relatively affordable and don't take up much space, they're perfect for those who want to exercise at home but don't have the space or money to invest in bulky or expensive workout equipment.
