Google Reveals the Top Trending TV Shows of 2023—and the Results Are Honestly a Surprise

There are countless streaming options available at our fingertips, but which shows are actually worth the watch? In honor of the New Year, Google has released a list of the top five trending shows from 2023, with options from Netflix, Max and more (and if we’re being honest, the list actually surprised us). The Last of Us claimed the number one spot as the top trending series, followed by Ginny & Georgia, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Daisy Jones & The Six and Wednesday.

1. The Last of Us

• Seasons: 1

• Cast: Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey

Based on a popular 2013 video game of the same name, The Last of Us follows a smuggler (Pedro Pascal) who is tasked with escorting a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a desolate United States. It takes place in the aftermath of a fungal infection that turns humans into killer zombies. The show is returning for season two, and it’s expected to premiere sometime in 2025.

2. Ginny & Georgia

• Cast: Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Diesel La Torraca

The show focuses on a mother-daughter duo—Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia (Brianne Howey)—as they navigate several of life’s obstacles. Although Georgia has been on the run for years, she finally settles down in a small town, much to her kids’ delight. (FYI, it’s already been renewed for seasons three and four.)

3. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

• Cast: India Amarteifio, Adjoa Andoh, Michelle Fairley

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a spin-off of Bridgerton. Instead of focusing on the Bridgerton siblings, the series dives into the life of young Queen Charlotte (played by India Amarteifio) and offers a rare glimpse of her origin story, including her marriage to King George and how the Ton came to be.

4. Daisy Jones & The Six

• Cast: Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Camila Morrone

Adapted from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s namesake novel, the story follows the fictional rise and eventual disbandment of a ’70s rock group. (The book was loosely inspired by Fleetwood Mac.)

5. Wednesday

• Seasons: 1

• Cast: Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome

The show offers a glimpse into the life of Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega), who transfers to Nevermore Academy and discovers a string of mysterious killings have been happening on campus.
