Google’s Top Trending Weddings of 2018 Included the Royals and Priyanka Chopra

It’s been quite the year for weddings. To think that at the beginning of 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not yet betrothed, or that Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas weren’t even publicly a “thing” just yet, shows just how eventful the year has been.

Google released its 2018 Year in Search lists on Wednesday, Dec. 12, highlighting all the “people, topics, events, and places that captured the world’s attention this year,” according to a release. Amid lists of the top trending musicians and bands (Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande reign supreme there) and top beauty questions (like, “How to apply magnetic lashes” for the curious) is one that we’re exceptionally excited about: the biggest weddings of 2018.

Coming in at the top spot is, unsurprisingly, the royal wedding, which captivated audiences in May. All things Meghan and Harry dominated headlines leading up to, and ever since they exchanged vows at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Chopra and Jonas’ wedding was the second in trending moments, which makes sense given the whirlwind journey they embarked on this year, from a surprise July engagement to a bridal shower to a bachelorette bash to a weekend-long wedding in India that featured both a Christian ceremony and a traditional Hindu ceremony. Lots to look up there.

Perhaps a bit more surprising are the weddings that follow, including Princess Eugenie’s wedding (the lesser celebrated but equally beautiful royal wedding of the year), Kat Von D’s wedding to Rafael Reyes (a goth affair that had heads literally spinning) and Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s picturesque Scottish wedding.

Emily Ratajkowski also made the cut, probably because her wedding to filmmaker Sebastian Bear-McClard came as a surprise to pretty much everybody. “It felt very ‘heist movie,’ because all of my girlfriends were in suits, too, and I wasn’t wearing white, so I kept passing the bouquet of flowers to them, like, ‘Decoy, decoy!’” she told Vanity Fair after the fact.
