The Goodyear Blimp Is Transforming Into an Airbnb for 3 Nights

Airbnb is no longer limiting its vacation rentals to the ground.

The famous Goodyear Blimp will become a temporary Airbnb rental for whoever’s lucky enough to nab a reservation when it goes live on Oct. 15.

One-night stays in the blimp will be available for the evenings of Oct. 22, 23 and 24. The blimp will be stationed in a hangar in Mogadore, Ohio before it lifts off to Ann Arbor, Michigan to provide overhead coverage of the much-anticipated football game between Michigan and Notre Dame.

“Just like any host, we will be opening up our home to give the guests the best experience," Goodyear Chief Pilot Jerry Hissem told USA Today. "They will have a tour of our facilities, highlighting our 100 year history and 60+ years of covering college football games. They will get to enjoy Wingfoot Lake and the complete tailgate experience. And, they will get to meet many of our crew and learn about the blimp.”

Reservations will cost $150 per night, plus taxes. But that fee includes access to the blimp, including overnight accommodations for two people and room for four friends during the day. Guests will also have access to a lakefront camping spot with a grill, fire pit, cornhole and other tailgating essentials for the lead-up to the big game.

The blimp itself has provided aerial coverage of college football games since 1955 and is set to retire into the College Football Hall of Fame later this year — the first non-player or coach to receive that honor.

But the Goodyear experience doesn’t end upon check out. Those who are lucky enough to stay in the blimp will also win tickets to the game later that week.
