Some Goodwill Stores and Donation Centers Are Already Back in Business
From offering their parking lots to conduct drive-thru COVID-19 testing to donating fabric to make masks for local medical personnel, Goodwill stores have played a valuable role in their communities throughout the coronavirus pandemic — and now, everyone's donations and business are more important than ever before.
If you have a bag of donations that's ready to go — or can't wait to search through Goodwill's racks of hidden treasures again — you're in luck: the non-profit organization plans to reopen each location as soon as it's safe to do so. And with new precautions and donation protocols, that might be sooner than you think.
Is the Goodwill open right now?
According to the organization's website, Goodwills are reopening regionally in accordance with state and local safety guidance. Some Goodwill stores and donation centers are already open or in the process of reopening. For example, Goodwill will reopen 27 retail stores and training centers in Wisconsin on May 26. From there, visit your location's website or give them a call to see if they're open.
Remember: even if your Goodwill store is open, there will be new safety measures in place to protect shoppers and employees. Stores may enforce social distancing by limiting the number of people inside and could require everyone to wear a mask.
Is Goodwill still taking donations?
Even if your Goodwill store isn't open, you might still be able to make a donation. "More than half of all Goodwill donation centers have reopened and are processing donations with new safety procedures, such as retrieving donations from the trunk of donor’s vehicles or offering contactless, self-serve donation drop-offs to minimize direct contact," according to the Goodwill website.
