Almost one year after Ray Liotta's passing, an official cause of death has been revealed.

The Goodfellas actor died in his sleep at age 67 on May 26, 2022, in the Dominican Republic, due to respiratory insufficiency (fluid in his lungs) and pulmonary edema (acute heart failure), according to documents obtained by TMZ. The manner of his death was listed as natural and nonviolent.

Liotta had been in the Caribbean country filming Dangerous Waters at the time.

In February, the Shades of Blue star was honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame following his unexpected death. His daughter Karsen Liotta accepted the honor on his behalf at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

"I'm so touched to be accepting this honor on behalf of my dad. I couldn't be more proud of him," Karsen, 24, stated during her speech. "He was a one-of-a-kind actor and the best friend, brother and father anyone could have asked for. I lucked out with you."

"If you have a Ray in your life, you're lucky," she continued. "I love you so much. Thank you for your work and the imprint you left on me and all of those who love you. Everyone deserves a Ray in their life."

Aside from Goodfellas, Liotta was known for his work in Oscar-nominated film Field of Dreams, Something Wild and a slew of other features.

The project he was working on at the time of his death—a thriller about a sailing vacation that spirals out of control when a teenage daughter uncovers the dark past of her mother's new boyfriend—currently has a future which is unclear. The unfinished flick also stars Eric Dane and Saffron Burrows.

Most recently, Liotta appeared in Cocaine Bear, which ended up being one of his last on-screen credits.
