Our Editors Tried A Bunch Of Seamless Underwear, And These Are Their Faves

Picture this: You’re wearing your fave pair of jeans that make you check out your butt in every reflective surface you walk past. You strut around all day with the confidence of Rihanna, but when you do a 360 in the bathroom mirror at work, your eyes jump to two thin bunches underneath the denim—ughh, panty lines. It seems you forgot to wear your best pair of no-show seamless underwear.

While it's obviously not the *biggest* deal in the world to have your panty lines out and about, it may be your preference to avoid panty lines at all costs. But all of us have been there, and there's obviously no shame. That said, seamless underwear and thongs are here to make sure you won't be finding yourself in that situation again any time soon.

What to consider

There are a few different factors to consider when shopping for seamless underwear.

Your current wardrobe

Think about what's in your current wardrobe and what you typically wear day-to-day, whether it's workout leggings, maxi skirts, jeans, tight pants, or slacks, says Caroline Peaslee, a bra fitter for Cosabella. "All those things need to be taken into consideration because that has to do with what—weight-wise—kind of fabric you wanna use," she says. If you're wearing leggings, a thong might be the best underwear to wear, but if you're wearing a maxi skirt that's tight at the top, check out a bikini or boy short cut for full coverage, she says.

Fabric

Consider the weather and the activity you're about to do. Look for a thinner or lightweight fabric, like microfiber or mesh, if you think you'll be sweating a lot. If you live in a colder climate, you're probably safe opting for a heavier fabric, like cotton or jersey, Peaslee says. You can also wear a heavier fabric if you're on your period or wearing jeans because the thickness won't show through as much. Just make sure your undies have a cotton crotch because it's breathable for the ~downstairs~ area.

Timing/Care

Remember, you should be replacing your underwear on a regular basis—like every six to nine months, she says. You can always wash them on a delicate cycle and lay them out to dry to make them last longer, but they don't last forever, Peaslee says. Still, it may be a good idea to take a look at care instructions to see how time-consuming maintaining your undies are, and whether you're down to keep up with that. If not, shop other underwear or be prepared to replace your underwear even sooner than a few months.

Our team also consulted Caroline Peaslee, a bra fitter for Cosabella, and then evaluated thousands of customer reviews and ratings to narrow down the best items for a wide range of needs and preferences.

Assistant love and life editor Addison Aloian calls this seamless underwear her personal favorite. "This underwear from Jockey is legit the softest pair I've ever owned. It's stretchy, so it's wonderful for sleeping in, and even working out," she says. Made of microfiber fabric, the Modern Micro Seamfree Hipster is super breathable, too. Plus, this mid-rise cut gives you moderate coverage.

Several of our other testers are also fans. They love that this pair stays put, is comfy, and the fabric is thick, which is great for support.

Seamless Soft Stretch Brief 6-Pack

An affordable essential, this six-pack features hipster briefs that are breathable and provide a mid-level coverage. Whether slipping on a pair under cotton leggings or just lounging around, these are a solid go-to.

Our testers absolutely adore the Seamless Soft Stretch Brief, saying they hold up well after several washes and don't feel like they're digging or bunching. Plus, they're very affordable.

Seamless Thongs Five-Pack

This five pack is our top pick for soft, comfy, uber-discreet thongs. Our testers say they like that each pack comes in an assortment of colors. Another tester says they feel like a second skin because they're so comfortable.

Other notes we found are that they're cooling in the hottest of temperatures, they're silky and breathable, and don't dig in, so they legit feel like you're wearing nothing. No VPL in sight. Though one not—one tester says the sizing can be inconsistent, so you might have to try a few pairs to find the right one for you.

No Panty Line Promise Tactel Thong

Jockey is a WH editor-loved brand, as their Underwear No Panty Line Promise Tactel Thong also made this list! Commerce editor Jasmine Gomez is a fan of this pair, as it's comfy and soft on the skin. "These seamless panties from Jockey are an everyday go-to for their breathable and barely-there feel. Not to mention, they’re super stretchy, which I love since I hate panties that dig in," she says.

The seamless panty is also machine-washable and dryable (!) and has a low-rise cut. Our other testers say they're comfy and feel like you're wearing nothing.

Comfort Flex Seamless Boyshort Six-Pack

Hanes knows a thing or two about comfy underwear. The fabric on these boyshorts feels smooth as can be and stretches just enough to conform to the curves of your body while providing more coverage than a typical brief.

Six pairs come in the pack, making it easy on the wallet, and each pair is a different, fun color. You can probably already tell these undies are soft just by looking at the picture, and our testers say the same thing. They adore that the panties are comfy, stretchy, and don't bunch up at the bottom. It may be worth mentioning that one of our testers says that they may fit like full briefs, depending on your body type.

Seamless Invisible swimsuit Six-Pack

Coming in 14 different color packs, these machine-washable seamless underwear are total winners with our testers. On their own, they hug the body and stay in place, our testers say. The low rise also means they won't show under your high-rise jeans or leggings.

Testers say the perfect fit may only be short-term, though, as several people complained the panties tend to slip around the longer you have them on—one person described them as getting baggier throughout the day. But one fix for that is wearing them under tight jeans or leggings, since the compression helps the panties stay in place all day.

Invisible Sculpt Hip Hugger

This pair from Parade is a favorite of WH contributor Naydeline Mejia, who says she has a few pairs now that they've become her go-to's. "They're super comfy and breathable (I could wear them all day with no issues!)," Mejia says. "They're also seamless under form-fitting dresses, so you don't have to worry if the person behind you can see your underwear lines."

The panties come in 10 (!) cute colors and patterns, and feel even better than they look. Our other testers say they love that they're very thin but not see-through, fit well, and disappear under clothing. Testers say these undies are overall comfortable and don't dig in.

Moisture-Wicking Panties 4-Pack

For the hottest of days, opt for these moisture-wicking underwear made with Fruit Of The Loom's signature cooling fabric. Sans itchy tags, these also have mesh panels on the sides for maximum breathability.

Testers enjoy that they're comfy and fit well, and that they don't shrink after being machine-washed and dried. Just a note: Fruit Of The Loom uses their own sizing chart, so be sure to read that carefully. Also, some testers noted that the underwear are more prone to getting holes in them from heavy wear, so treat them with some TLC on laundry day.

Pure Stretch Thong

Under Armour's seamless thongs got WH fitness contributor Jennifer Nied through a ton of marathons and training. "They've endured hundreds of miles and I haven't experienced a bit of chafing ever," she says. The underwear come in several cute color sets and are amazing if you feel like working out, then grabbing brunch after in the same workout 'fit.

The fabric is soft—you could wear it all day if you wanted to—and it has hem-free construction on the edges, so panty lines shouldn't show through any outfit, our other testers say. It also has four-way stretch, so this pair is easy to move in.

Seamless Cotton Briefs Six-Pack

Our fashion experts say that cotton panties are great everyday underwear because they're so breathable. Most can feel kind of thick and give you panty lines, though—but not these briefs from Altheanray. Made with five percent spandex, they have just enough stretch to comfortably fit to the contours of your body.

These panties are not the best fit when worn under leggings, though. Several testers say they showed a visible panty line when worn under pants made from thin fabric.

Seamless swimsuit Panties

These panties are next-level soft—I'm talking silky. But, the proof is in the reviews. Testers love how soft and comfy these are. Plus, they fit great and they're as high-quality as ~other reputable lingerie brands~, one person said.

If you're looking for something that'll give you a little more form or compression, you may want to skip these, though. One tester did describe them as being "almost too stretchy."

Naked Classic Brief

Wearing these low-rise briefs feels more like a secret treat. The full-coverage panties are designed with a raw-cut waist edge and flat seams, and were specifically designed to offer an inclusive range of nude shades. The panty is made from soft Italian microfiber and has full coverage, making the fabric super soft and smooth.

Our testers love that the panties are made with a cotton gusset to make them breathable, and that there's options to pair them with a same-colored bra. Several testers did say they wished the panty was available in even more skin tones, though.

What’s the difference between seamless and no-show underwear?

Consider in terms of the VPL, or visible panty line, Peaslee says. Any thong gives you no VPL, because it's the style, so it serves as a no-show. However, there could still be seams on the thong.

Seamless underwear, on the other hand, means that there's literally no seams on the edges. There's usually only one on the back where it was sewn together, she says. Seamless underwear atr usually comfortable because there are no seams on the side, plus, there's no elastic at the top.

What’s the best type of seamless underwear to wear under leggings?

Wear whatever style you're most comfortable in, Peaslee says. She encourages people to have a whole lingerie wardrobe of panties for different activities. If you're wearing leggings for a workout, a thong might be your best bet. If you're a heavy sweater, though, make sure the color of your underwear won't show through your leggings.

How do you keep seamless underwear from riding up?

To keep seamless underwear from riding up, you'll want to wear a pair made of high-quality fabric. (Take a look at the sections above for expert-approved fabric examples!) That way, it won't stretch out the first time you wear it.

You'll also want to buy the right size of seamless underwear. If you're experiencing underwear riding up or rolling, it might be too tight. If it's moving a lot, it might be too loose. Consider your body shape at the current moment and which size will be best for you.
