The show was officially renewed for a third season at the same time as season 2. That means production was able to get a jump-start on new episodes ahead of time and fans didn’t have to panic about it not possibly ending on the aptly titled last episode of season 2, “Cliffhanger.” Plus, the timing is actually earlier than originally anticipated. During Netflix’s Geeked Week, the streamer announced that the season would be released on August 22, but here we are now!

What is season 3 of Locke & Key be about?

Just when the Locke kids finally thought they could catch a break, Eden had other plans. Using the Echo Key, she brought Captain Frederick Gideon back as an echo...and he plans to get revenge on the Lockes.

We should also talk about Nina, who is now able to remember everything with the help of the Memory Key, which will definitely shake up her family dynamic. Tyler, on the other hand, decided against using it. And with his 18th birthday coming up, there’s only so much time for him to remember magic and be able to help out his family in the wild new battle that’ll certainly go down in season 3.

Is there a trailer?

Along with the show’s release date, the first official trailer was also revealed and trust us, things are getting even more magical in Matheson as the Lockes head out on one last adventure. With some new villains and even a big familiar face wreaking havoc on this sweet New England town, you’re going to want to tune in to see how it all ends.

Netflix released a second trailer just a few weeks later that gave us a bigger clue as to what to expect. Of course, there’s some brand-new keys and Gideon is now in the 21st century, but Bode is going to be facing his biggest opponent yet again: Dodge. Check it out below:

Is this really the last season?

While Netflix gave us a special treat by premiering some brand-new photos featuring the cast in season 3, the creators of the series also revealed that the third season would be the last for Locke & Key.

“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion. As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.” —Locke and Key showrunners and executive producers Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill
