Good news, Cavs fans: Montell Jordan is ready to help your disintegrating team
Everything’s on fire in Northeast Ohio right now. The Cleveland Cavaliers have lost 13 of their last 20 games, and have lost All-Star forward Kevin Love for two months. With limited exceptions, the Cavs’ season has been marked by on-court struggle, roster-building concerns, palace intrigue, front-office drama, and regular high-profile drillings by elite competition. Things are bad enough that LeBron James is shooting down reports about his offseason free-agent intentions and waving off suggestions that he waive his no-trade clause to skip town before Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline. (Like somebody else LeBron used to know.)
Cleveland’s pursuing outside lifelines. Yahoo Sports NBA insider Chris Mannix reported Tuesday that general manager Koby Altman and company “continue to engage Sacramento on George Hill,” among other potential upgrades, but that Cleveland’s braintrust has been loathe to dangle the Brooklyn Nets’ unprotected 2018 first-round draft pick, which came in the deal that sent Kyrie Irving to Boston for Isaiah Thomas and which represents a starting point for a rebuild should LeBron elect to leave Ohio in free agency again this summer. The Cavs reportedly can’t get much traction on other upgrades because they just don’t have very many players that other teams want; unwinding the tangled web LeBron and the Cavs have woven is tough stuff.
Standing pat might be disastrous, but trades alone aren’t going to fix what’s broken about the Cavs.

Listen, it’s not my place to tell Altman, LeBron, Dan Gilbert or anybody at Quicken Loans Arena how to run their team. I’m just saying: it’d probably be a good idea to wrap this 10-day contract up before Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawkws, for obvious reasons. Wait much longer, and you might miss out on the other, other MJ due to contractual obligations; the Totally 90’s Tour waits for no NBA crisis.
