"It's Good! It's Fixed!"- Quick Thinking Rider Resets Friend's Dislocated Thumb

Finger injuries are very common in mountain biking. Often riders find themselves falling at odd angles onto their extremities onto uneven ground and bracing with their hands.

Sometimes, they can even get dislocated. Watch a gruesome video of one such injury below. Fair warning: there is a mangled thumb and some cursing in this video.

In this video, Michal Eichler’s friend gets up from a crash exclaiming he broke his thumb. Eichler thinks quickly and says he thinks it is just dislocated and that a quick yank would fix it. Against all odds, Michal’s friend gives him the green light.

When the rider’s friend yanks, the screams turn into relief. His thumb was relocated thanks to his quick-thinking friend. Michal says that it is important to do it quickly.

At this point, it is important to note that medical doctors do not recommend doing this yourself. The University of Utah’s protocol for dislocated fingers says, “Don't try to force your finger back into place. This may damage the joint and the surrounding muscles, ligaments, nerves or blood vessels.”

For legal reasons, I must advise against this course of action. Still, fixing a finger like you’re Ronnie Lott is pretty cool.
