Fan Favorite Quits 'The Good Doctor'

Big news, Good Doctor fans: TVLine reports that Brandon Larracuente, who plays Dr. Danny Perez, will not return to the ABC medical drama for Season 7—at least not on a full-time basis.

His character, who turned up at St. Bonaventure Hospital at the start of Season 6, notably struggled with an opioid addiction, and although it seemed like he had his problem under control, he relapsed and overdosed in Episode 9.

Perez 's addiction stood in the way of his budding relationship with Dr. Jordan Allen (Bria Samoné Henderson), but that wasn't the would-be couple's only obstacle—the return of Dr. Jared Kalu (Chuku Modu) also proved to be a roadblock.

So how will things end for Dr. Perez? According to promos for The Good Doctor finale, "Love's Labor," we'll see Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) heading to the delivery room—and a tragic accident involving Drs. Perez and Kalu.

Now that we know Larracuente is exiting his role, at least as a series regular, that teaser sounds more ominous than ever.

The Good Doctor finale airs Monday, May 1, at 10 p.m. ET.
