The Good Doctor

The Good Doctor delivered an unexpected and devastating blow in this week's Season 7 Episode 5 ("Who At Peace"), killing off a main character just as his life was about to take a happy turn. The character in question: Dr. Asher Wolke (Noah Galvin), who was killed in an antisemitic attack while his boyfriend, Jerome (Giacomo Baessato), waited for him at a nearby restaurant, where he was set to propose.

The shocking death capped off a storyline in which Asher was seen grappling with his religious past (he was raised in an Orthodox household and pressured to stay in the closet), as he helped a patient convert to Judaism for his fiancé. The hour ended with him driving the rabbi who officiated that patient's wedding back to his synagogue, which was under attack by vandals. That's when Asher met his untimely fate. After confronting the criminals, they attacked him from behind and killed him.

The episode ended with the following message.

If you or anyone you know has experienced antisemitism, racism, anti-LGBTQ+ related incidents or hate crimes, or if you want to learn more about what you can do to stop hate, please visit splcenter.org.

The show, which is now halfway through its seventh and final season, will return next week on April 9, at which point the rest of the St. Bonaventure staff is likely to be shaken to its core.
