Our doctors were put to the test in every way imaginable when Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and her nurse were brutally attacked by the nurse's abusive boyfriend. Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), and the others must perform medical miracles amid a hospital lockdown. They emerge as heroes, while Dr. Murphy faces some of his childhood demons in relation to the death of his brother. What a wedding night for newlyweds Shaun and Lea!
Episode 2 promises more drama and change when the team is introduced to new medical residents and we see a changed Dr. Lim facing her "new normal."

There are a few looming questions that fans would love to have answered in Season 6, if not before—primarily, can Shaun and Lea (Paige Spara) patch things up enough to have that romantic wedding that we’ve long been waiting for?

In fact, count Spara among those who want Lea and Shaun to find their happily ever after. In a recent Q&A, Spara exclusively told Parade, “I love this relationship so much because it just speaks about patience and empathy and grace that a couple can provide for one another in a relationship. I’m absolutely rooting for them, 1,000 percent.”
She adds that the autism storylines in The Good Doctor and the messages of kindness, acceptance, and curtailing our inclination to judge are extremely important to all of us. “I find it so humbling, an honor and a privilege to carry forth such a story that has been so impactful and has made so many people feel seen,” Spara explains. “This is especially in regard to Shaun and Lea’s storyline, what their love can look like, what it does look like, and how it continuously evolves. I find that to be so rewarding!”

He first serves as the head of the surgical department and later as hospital president when Dr. Glassman steps down to fight brain cancer. Dr. Andrews is one of many doctors who have gone to bat for Dr. Murphy. He continues to provide emotional support to Shaun and Lea.

Richard Schiff is Dr. Aaron Glassman, Dr. Murphy’s friend, mentor, and father figure. He put his job as hospital president on the line for Dr. Murphy, beat brain cancer (after extensive treatment), navigated a rocky personal relationship with his wife, Debbie (played by his real-life actress-wife, Sheila Kelly), that ended in divorce, and Glassman heading to Montana to clear his head. He is now back working as a surgeon at St. Bonaventure and supporting Dr. Murphy.

Paige Spara is Lea Dilallo, Shaun’s free-spirited friend, former roommate, and first love. She truly understands Dr. Murphy–quirks and all. The two rekindled their romance in a major way and experienced the joys of impending parenthood and the profound loss when she suffered a miscarriage. The ensuing grief, and the different ways that Lea and Shaun handled it, threatened their future as a couple in Season 4. The couple’s on-again and off-again wedding has been a major source of stress and angst (for the couple and the viewers) and will they or won’t they tie the knot is a looming question.
Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick

Fiona Gubelmann is Dr. Morgan Reznick, an outspoken and competitive young medical resident who works closely with Dr. Murphy. Despite her own medical difficulties, she’s finding her own footing, both personally and professionally. In Season 5, she has been finding her moral compass and getting closer to her colleague Dr. Alex Park.
Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park

Noah Galvin plays Dr. Asher Wolke, a dedicated doctor, formerly part of an Orthodox Jewish sect, who decided to separate himself from his devout beliefs before going to medical school. He has become more vocal about his sexuality to the point he may be dating a colleague, a male hospital nurse. Galvin is best known for his roles in Booksmart and The Real O’Neals.
Bria Simone Henderson as Dr. Jordan Allen

Bria Samone Henderson, best known for her role in Mrs. America, is Dr. Jordan Allen, a faithful Baptist and caring doctor who finds strength in her daily prayer. Her character has become more fleshed out in Season 5 and she and Dr. Wolke have put many of their differences aside to become team players, something that is appreciated by their senior doctors and patients alike.
Who left The Good Doctor in Season 5?
Osvaldo Benavides (Dr. Mateo Rendon Osma), was introduced in Part 1 of the Season 4 finale. He met Dr. Lim during a surgical mission in Guatemala and goes on to accept a job at St. Bonaventure offered by Dr. Lim. But after a few episodes, his personal commitments result in him leaving the hospital and the show.

What happened in Season 5 of The Good Doctor?
Fans eagerly waited to see if Dr. Shaun Murphy and Lea would walk down the aisle after a major wrinkle during the Nov. 22 episode, when the couple fought over Lea manipulating Shaun’s patient satisfaction scores, which he said was unacceptable. In fact, he tells her point-blank, “I can’t marry you.”
Now that Shaun called off the wedding, he’s forced to confront his fiancé about their relationship, what he means to her, as well as their future. This included a recent episode in which their busy schedules got in the way of their formerly active sex life. After much research—music, candles, chocolates, tender massage, and other advice – a simple belly laugh at bedtime put them in the proper mood.
With rocky roads ahead for Dr. Murphy and Lea, the Feb. 28 episode was aptly called “Rebellion,” in which the doctors banded together to successfully oust the villainous Salen, and Dr. Andrews becomes the new hospital president, attempting to restore order and common sense to the hospital he loves.

Is there a Good Doctor spinoff?
Piggy-backing on the wide success of The Good Doctor, ABC is developing a new series, The Good Lawyer, a female-led offshoot of the popular medical drama from the series' executive producers and showrunners, David Shore and Liz Friedman, according to Deadline.
In the exciting new spinoff, two female characters from The Good Doctor will be introduced in an episode in the middle of Season 6.
Deadline reports that The Good Lawyer will center on Joni, a brilliant 20-something lawyer who battles obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and is known for having quirky behaviors. Joni will be introduced when she is hired as a defense attorney for Dr. Shaun Murphy.
The same episode will introduce Janet, an attorney described as having “a fierce intellect, and a dry, rapier wit,” who has represented Dr. Glassman for 30 years; Shaun's mentor turns to her to represent Shaun. Deadline says that casting for both of these pivotal roles is underway.
