Golden Retrievers Recreate 'Lady and the Tramp' Dinner for Their First Date Together

You know how sometimes art imitates life? Well in this case, life definitely had a little inspo from the movies. Two golden Retrievers in the San Francisco Bay area had their "Lady and the Tramp" moment in a now-viral video online. And let's just say it's almost better than the original.

What's a dog owner to do when their pup goes on their first "date" with another dog? Obviously recreate one of the most well-known scenes from a beloved Disney movie. Duh.

In the clip from @ourlovinglola, it shows Lola with her "date" (aka, Atlas from @itsatlasthegolden). Next to her sits a table with a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs perched on its top. Lola is politely waiting while Atlas chows down on the food between them. In fact, it pretty much seems that Atlas ate all of the meatballs all by himself.

"POV: you're on your first date and your date won't stop eating," the video's onscreen caption reads.

You can say that again! Atlas didn't leave Lola a crumb.

"My dog went on her first date with @Atlas & Aura and it sent like this," the dog's owner joked in the video's caption.

Despite his appetite, people were here for Atlas and Lola. "A salad?” Perhaps not" joked one commenter. "O.....M.....G..... How freaking adorable is this," someone wrote. "Lola such a lady," another commenter mused.

What Should Golden Retrievers Eat?

Lola's mama later clarified that the dogs only really ate the "dog safe" meatballs and "we only gave them a few strands of pasta." Which probably means both Lola and Atlas were totally okay with the meal they were given. But that sort of begs the question: what kinds of foods can Golden Retrievers eat?

First it should be noted that Goldens eat about two cups of food per day. So not much food is needed. If you're looking at bagged food found at the grocery store, look for something that has some form of meat as the first ingredient — either lamb, chicken, or turkey. Any dog food that lists grain as the first ingredient should best be avoided. The best foods will have multiple meat proteins listed in the first several ingredients. Another thing to avoid? Any dog food that lists different types of grains as their first seven ingredients. Ditto for food that contains animal digest — these are bad for your pup and should be avoided at all costs.

A good rule of thumb when picking out a dog food is to look for foods that would be suitable for humans. If the quality of meat, grains, or vegetables wouldn't be served to you, it probably shouldn't be served to your pooch either.

Just like humans, dogs require good, whole, quality food... And sometimes the occasional dog safe meatballs.
