Golden Retriever's Attempts to Play With Grumpy Cat Bestie Will Make Anyone Smile

You may not be able to choose your siblings, but you can choose how you interact with them. A little kindness can go a long way--especially in the moments when you don't feel like being kind--but no siblings are perfect angels to one another. Whether it's identical twins or half-siblings who are opposites in every way, every set of siblings is going to butt heads sometimes. And the same can be said for animal 'siblings' too!

Pet siblings and BFFS (or 'frenemies,' depending on what day it is) Maple and Waffles are no different. While Golden Retriever Maple wins her feline brother's affection on some days, there are plenty of other days when the 'Golden Breakfast Club' doesn't get along so well. And still, there are a few days like February 1 that could go either way--it depends on who you ask!

While golden kitty Waffles is busy being a sourpuss (pun intended), Maple was being as sweet as can be. She was so excited to play with him that she could barely contain herself!

Aww! Maple couldn't possibly be any happier if she tried. As it is, she already has no idea what to do with all of her energy, but the fact that her brother won't play isn't helping. Clearly, she was ready to let out a case of the zoomies, but she would rather be playing with the cat. Could she get any cuter?

While the Golden Retriever's fans are hopeful her persistence will pay off, the 3-year-old hasn't seen too much progress from her 10-year-old feline brother yet. They play and feud exactly like human siblings do, but everyone hopes to see them closer than ever someday soon. Only recently has the polydactyl cat initiated sitting together, but even these baby steps are wonderful progress.

How to Help Cats and Dogs Get Along

Although many people assume dogs and cats can't get along, others know that's not true at all. Cats and dogs can get along! While some dogs have a higher prey drive that make getting along with cats difficult, plenty of others are naturally tolerant and gentle. On the other hand, some cats don't mind the presence of dogs, while other grumpy cats--like Waffles the orange cat--take a lot longer to warm up.

The best way to introduce a cat and dog is by taking baby steps. You can let them sniff each other's beds or blankets before allowing them to meet with a safe barrier between them. Don't rush things! It can take days or even weeks before they're ready to meet face-to-face, and that's completely OK.

Just look at Maple and Waffles! These two aren't always the best of friends, but they'll be closer than ever in no time.
