Golden Retriever Has Annual Visit With His Rescuer and Can’t Contain His Excitement

When your dog has a favorite person, you just know it. They get so excited whenever that person is near and their tail wags super fast. For one Golden Retriever named Stevie, that person is the man who rescued him — Mike. The two meet up yearly to have a little check-in. And video of this year's meeting is honestly too cute for words.

Stevie is normally a pretty happy guy, but as the video online shows he gets super hyped whenever Mike is near.

The good boy's mama caught the adorable meeting on camera.

"Who's here?" she asked from behind the camera. Meanwhile Stevie is pretty much freaking out in the clip. His tail was wagging and he kept bouncing from one paw to the other. He looked like he was marching super-fast in his place.

"Slow down," Mike told him from the doorway. The second that Mike went over to Stevie, the dog got right down on his belly and then tipped his head up for pets. When Mike got down to his level, Stevie took the opportunity to give him some kisses too.

"There's the kisses!" his mom mused from behind the camera.

Now what kind of house guest would Mike be without bringing some presents for Stevie? He had a whole bag full of goodies for the Golden Retriever, which included peanut butter and banana flavored treats, a new Lamb Chop, and some salmon treats too.

"Once a year Stevie’s original rescuer Mike comes to visit for Christmas," the video's caption states. "And Stevie doesn’t react like this with anyone else. He knows. He remembers."

Can Dogs Remember Humans?

It might seem surprising that Stevie can remember Mike, but there's lots of evidence out there that dogs have good memories for humans. In fact, dogs have an associative memory, which means they can remember people based on their experience with them. This is why they're so happy when you come home to them — they remember you and recall that they love you, which is why they celebrate when you walk in the door.

Another key factor to a dog's memory is his or her nose. Dogs have very keen senses of smell that are 1,000 to 10,000 times better than a human's. Their sense of smell also helps them remember us — so have no fear that your pup won't recognize you after some time spent apart.

Commenters online were smitten over Stevie and Mike's reunion. "The only acceptable love surge," wrote one woman. "He’s like 'thank GOD you rescued me, look how great my life is!!!'" another person gushed. "Mike can’t even say a word to Stevie without him about to explode from excitement," a third person pointed out.

Looks like these two will have a bond for life.
