Gold Medalist Snowboarder Practices On World-Class Indoor Halfpipe

An Olympic-caliber snowboarder meets world-class indoor halfpipe; what more could you want?

Watch as China's Su Yiming gets lofty on this unique halfpipe setup.

Yiming's a huge name in the snowboarding world. He's won Olympic gold in snowboarding big air and a silver in halfpipe.

The pipe shown here looks like the ultimate training tool. Normally, for a snowboarder or skier to train year-round, they'll need to bop around from continent to continent in an endless pursuit of winter.

A giant fridge like this sidesteps this problem, providing year-round access to what looks to be the perfect halfpipe.

For those wondering where this impressive halfpipe is located: I think it's in Japan. Last year, Burton uploaded a video featuring a similar indoor pipe at an "undisclosed" Japanese location. The most they offered was that the video was shot in the "shadow of Mt. Fuji," which doesn't do much for would-be triangulators. Mt Fuji's huge, meaning its shadow covers lots of terrain.

Plus, it's entirely possible that the old Burton video covers a different indoor halfpipe. Your guess is as good as mine.

Perhaps some hidden gems are better kept secret. Or, maybe, I'll take my fledgling hunt for the elusive halfpipe as a sign that it's time to take a vacation to Japan. Honestly, the latter option sounds more appealing. It's been years since I've had proper ramen.
