After Going Viral With $56 Million Wedding, Groom Faces Decades in Prison

The groom from the “wedding of the century,” which went viral last month on TikTok, is facing life in prison. Jacob LaGrone, 29, shot to social media fame in November when his wife, 27-year-old Madelaine Brockway, posted videos of their lavish wedding to TikTok. Various outlets peg the cost of the event at anywhere from $56 million to $89 million. Brockway’s father is Robert Brockway, the chairman and CEO of Bill Ussery Motors, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables and Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay in Florida.

Per The Independent, the couple’s celebration stretched across a five-day Paris getaway. Their rehearsal dinner was held at the Paris Opera House, followed by an overnight at the Palace of Versailles. Maroon 5 even appeared at the reception to serenade the bride, who wore Dior haute couture, and groom during their first dance. According to The Economic Times, the registry included a variety of luxury items, such as a $12,500 crystal butterfly house, a $5,600 vintage vase, and a $2,950 antique silver tea set.

Brockway and LaGrone achieved instant fame when footage of the event circulated, with many unironically calling it the “wedding of the century.” But it seems the newfound fame has come with a price. The Washington Post reported that LaGrone is currently at the center of a criminal investigation, and faces decades in prison. A legal matter that likely would have played out in private is now unfolding on a national scale.

Authorities allege that, on March 14, police in Westworth Village, TX responded to a litany of disturbance calls at the same address. When officers arrived at the residential home to assess the situation, LaGrone allegedly “fired upon” them, according to an indictment reviewed by The Post. The filings allege that LaGrone “did intentionally and knowingly threaten imminent bodily injury” to several police officers, and “did use or exhibit a deadly weapon during the commission of the assault, namely, a firearm”.

LaGrone was arrested at the time and later released on a $20,000 bond. However, he’s still facing a battle in court. In Texas, a crime against a police officer that results in serious injury is considered a first-degree felony. The range of punishment is vast—anywhere from five to 99 years, or even life in prison.

The accused appeared in a Tarrant County Courthouse on November 30, though what was discussed at that appearance is unclear. In August, just three months before his extravagant wedding week, LaGrone was offered a plea deal by the district attorney’s office. Per the terms, LaGrone would waive the right to a trial and plead guilty in exchange for a relatively low sentence of 25 years.

Since LaGrone’s court appearance last week, Brockway deleted her TikTok account, which stored the massively popular videos of their ceremony, and privatized her Instagram account.
