What’s Going on with Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler?

If we know anything about Vanessa Hudgens it’s that she’s the queen of Coachella and she’s a relationship person. The now 31-year-old High School Musical actress dated her co-star Zac Efron for some time before they parted ways and she moved on to Austin Butler. Now, after eight years together, the actress and 28-year-old Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star have reportedly decided to consciously uncouple (neither party has confirmed their new relationship status). Here, a full rundown of their romance.

1. They Got Together in September of 2011

Although they first met on the set of High School Musical in 2005, they weren’t romantically linked until 2011. They didn’t immediately confirm their relationship, but were spotted holding hands and kissing in Los Angeles and Miami. They eventually went public with their happy news at a Lakers game in December of 2011.

2. They made their red carpet debut in February of 2012

The couple made it red carpet official at the premiere of Hudgens’s movie, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, in LA. From there, they began traveling the world together and walking each and every red carpet they attended arm-in-arm.

3. They Made it Instagram official in December of 2013

After about a year of dating, Butler made it onto The Princess Switch star’s grid in a group photo with her friends after a Hillsong Church service. Butler himself didn’t join Instagram until August 2015, and Hudgens welcomed him warmly, calling him her “family member.”

4. Long Distance Started in 2015

Since both Hudgens and Butler are actors, their work often took them away from one another. While Hudgens was starring in Gigi on Broadway, she jokingly captioned an Instagram pic, “Ugh. I miss him. MTV stop hogging him. LOL.” They made up for lost time continuing their travels and going to Africa, Arizona and Italy. Through it all they continued to support one another’s careers publicly. In 2017, she spoke out about how long distance “sucks” on Instagram but still called him her “rock” during a 2018 interview.

By the end of 2019, Butler was noticeably absent from Hudgens’s feed and they didn’t spend the holidays together. Here’s to hoping they figure out what’s best for both of them!
