Is there going to be a third Enola Holmes movie on Netflix?

Millie Bobby Brown is back in action solving cases as Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes, in Enola Holmes 2, which dropped on Netflix earlier today (4th November).

The sequel to the highly successful first film Enola Holmes, based on the novel series of the same name by Nancy Springer, sees Enola return and follow in her brother's footsteps by setting up her own detective agency. Enola soon discovers running your own agency isn't as easy as it first appears, and just when she is about to give up hope of getting a case she is presented with the chance of helping to find her client's missing sister.

The movie also sees the return of Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes and Helena Bonham Carter as Sherlock and Enola's mother, Eudoria.

Enola Holmes 2 ends with plenty of opportunity for a third film, but has it been confirmed?

Will there be an Enola Holmes 3?

So far Netflix has not yet confirmed if there will be a third Enola Holmes film. However, given how well the first film did and hopefully the second one will too, there's a big chance we could see the return of Millie Bobby Brown as Enola again.

And considering the ending credits scene introduced us to Sherlock's famous sidekick Dr. John Watson, played by Himesh Patel, there's a strong chance our favourite cast will be returning again.

Who might star in Enola Holmes 3?

Obviously Enola Holmes would be very odd without Millie Bobby Brown as Enola, so she's sure to return if a third movie is confirmed.

Also hopefully returning for a third movie would be Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helen Bonham Carter as Enola and Sherlock's mother Eudoria, Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Susie Wokoma as Edith and Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade.

Sam Claflin was missing from Enola Holmes 2 in the role of Enola's brother Mycroft Holmes, due to scheduling conflicts, so hopefully he would be able to return for a third movie.

Enola Holmes 2 director, Harry Bradbeer, said Sam is welcome back if there is a third movie, "Well, it was Sam's schedule that became very clear, so Sam was not going to be in it. We were very sorry that Sam couldn't be in this one. If there was a future one we would love to have him back," he told Collider.

A third film would also hopefully see the return of Sharon Duncan-Brewster as iconic villain Moriarty.

And, as revealed in the credits scene, Himesh Patel has joined the cast as Sherlock's sidekick, Dr. John Watson, and so he will ideally be returning for a third film.

What might happen in Enola Holmes 3?

Enola Holmes 2 ends with the main mystery solved but contained plenty of hints of what could happen in a third film.

Moriarty is seen escaping prison so she'll likely be returning to cause the Holmes family all kinds of problems. There's also the introduction of Dr. John Watson who will likely feature heavily in potential third film.

Though the Enola Holmes films are inspired by the novel series of the same name by Nancy Springer, they don't tend to follow the plots laid out in the novels exactly.

When might Enola Holmes 3 be released?

Unfortunately, as Netflix has not yet confirmed if there will be an Enola Holmes 3, we won't know a potential release date.

However, given Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill both have other filming commitments (Millie has the final season of Stranger Things and Henry has a potential Superman movie) it could be sometime before we see a third film.
