Goat's Silly Attempt to 'Annoy' and Play With Farm Dog Has Everyone Laughing

A hard day's work can get monotonous no matter what field you work in, but having a coworker who keeps you smiling can make a world of difference. Those moments of shared levity can help boring and demanding days feel bearable, but it can be the complete opposite situation if you're surrounded by co-workers who stress you out. Usually, everyone experiences a bit of both in the workplace and Pete, the farm dog, feels no different.

This multi-talented border collie is one of seven farm dogs and livestock guardian dogs at Raventree Ranch, but it's not one of those coworkers who bugged him on January 21--it was one of the goats! Perhaps Bucky just couldn't resist the temptation of Pete's brightly colored chew toys, but the way he repeatedly annoyed Pete had viewers laughing out loud.

See what I mean? Bucky has a one-track mind when it comes to stealing the dog toy from Pete, but the farm dog isn't about to let that happen. He wants the toy for himself! Or... is there something else going on here?

"Has Pete learned to make the goats herd themselves with rings?" asked commenter @pattycake411. Honestly, it looks like that may be the case! The Border Collie keeps tossing the toy away from himself every time he moves forward when he could easily just keep the toy in his mouth or tucked beneath his paws. Maybe Bucky is doing exactly what the clever dog wanted him to do!

What's the Difference Between Herding Dogs and Livestock Guardian Dogs?

As you can see in the video, Pete isn't the only dog at California's @raventreeranch. The curious Anatolian Shepherd is one of the ranch's three livestock guardian dogs, while Pete is one of four farm dogs. Typically, a farm dog is capable of helping with a number of tasks, but herding livestock is almost always on the list. It can take time and training for them to hone their instinctual herding skills, but once they've mastered it, they can be an incredible asset.

On the other hand, a livestock guardian dog lives alongside the flock or herd. Their main job is to keep everyone safe and to look out for predators, though everyone hopes they'll never have to use their skills.

You'll often see Great Pyrenees and Anatolian Shepherd dogs living alongside livestock as guardians. Herding dogs like the Australian cattle dog, the Australian Shepherd, and (of course) the border collie, take care of herding the flock. Even though many dogs like Pete have a natural instinct for these kinds of jobs, nuisances like Bucky the goat can make any job a lot harder!
