Invisible Shield SPF 50

$32.00, Glossier

Summer is here, and that means a good sunscreen will need to be within arms reach for the next few months — and that's precisely why we decided to put the new Glossier Invisible Shield sunscreen to see just how good it is.

We first got a glimpse at the product at the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft as the #1 pick, Caitlin Clarke, debuted the product underneath her look. Glossier notably has existed as one of the few brands deep in the “no makeup makeup” look, so sunscreen seems perfectly in line with their other beauty products.

Below, the Teen Vogue team put the Glossier Invisible Shield SPF 50 to the test to see if it'll be good enough to last us all summer. Read our full thoughts.

Glossier Invisible Shield SPF 50 Review: Teen Vogue Tries

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect sunscreen for a while now that could handle my incredibly dry skin, and I think I just found it. My main parameters for success were 1) Quick absorption into the skin, 2) No white cast, and 3) It has to be moisturizing. Bonus points if it sits well under makeup.

Dear reader, this sunscreen checked all the boxes and more. The consistency wasn’t your typical cream but more of a silky, primer-esque formula, and I absolutely loved it. It absorbed quickly, so I didn’t have a thick product just sitting on my skin. It’s clear in color, so I didn’t have to worry about a ghostly white cast. And finally, it acted almost like a primer for my makeup — with no pilling in sight.

I have to give Glossier credit for this one, especially because the product is SPF 50, which absolutely beats out most products I’ve seen that only go up to SPF 30. I simply need Glossier to make bigger bottles of this so I can keep myself stocked up for the rest of my life.

My first impressions of this product were great. I think the packaging, although a little small, is clever since it’s slender and can easily be put in a purse or backpack so you can reapply throughout the day. It’s a clear jelly-like consistency that goes on super smooth. My makeup sticks to it very well, and there’s no white cast or any indication that I have a layer of sunscreen underneath. And when I forgot to put it on before doing my makeup — we’ve all been there — I gently tapped it in on top and it didn’t cause any streaks or pilling.

If you’ve tried the TikTok-viral Trader Joe’s sunscreen, this is pretty much on par. I do find this one makes my skin a little glowier and seems to rub into my skin a little better since it’s ever so slightly more liquidy. While both are 1.7 fluid ounces, the Glossier sunscreen is a higher price at $32 in comparison to Trader Joe’s $9 sunscreen. However, Glossier is a bit more accessible as you can order it online.

Glossier Invisible Shield SPF 50 Review: Teen Vogue Tries

I decided at the top of the year that I’d commit to wearing sunscreen everyday that I step outside. It didn’t matter if it was raining, cloudy, or dark outside, I was going to do my skin care routine and include sunscreen. It’s one of the few new years resolutions I’ve actually kept. So, with that journey, I’ve been on the hunt for my go-to sunscreen, and I must admit I think I might’ve found it.

As a Black woman, sunscreen is very difficult for me. And as someone who doesn’t wear makeup every day, sunscreen needs to be two things: cast-free and a bit dewy. I have severely dry skin, so moisture is very important to me. The Glossier sunscreen felt extremely great on my skin. It spreads easily and soaks into my face versus just sitting on top of it. It’s clear coat is perfect and adds a perfect shine to my skin that I am always chasing in my makeup-less looks.

My only downside is the scent, it smells a bit chalky to me, but that is more a personal issue than anything actually alarming. I’ve been trying this product out for the past three weeks, and I can confidently say it’s been doing wonders for my skin. I feel like my skin is more even and it looks lively every day, which is my only goal when leaving the house.
