Glitter Is a Girl’s Best Friend—And a Worthy Concealer Alternative, According to the Fendi Runway

This morning on the Fendi runway, a tangerine sphere of light glowed in the backdrop to illustrate a sunrise, which for this season’s girl, marked less of a morning anew, and more of a fabulous night on the town. “When you really go out, you see the sun coming up,” grinned makeup artist Peter Philips backstage, where he adorned the gazes of Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Binx Walton, and Selena Forrest with cascades of metallic glitter.

After giving the girls a healthy glow with a hint of contour, Philips rimmed black kohl liner on the waterlines, asking each model to squeeze their eyes shut afterwards for a melted, “morning after effect,” he said. Then came the glitter, with Philips using a light layer of lash glue as an adhesive before brushing on silver flecks in a diffused reverse triangle shape. “It’s a bit of a fantasy, but also just a bunch of girls that went out over the weekend with this left-over makeup,” Philips explained. A fitting counterpart for recycled eye sparkles worn in lieu of concealer? Hair thrown up haphazardly, of course.

They’re few and far between, but there are those moments in life when a woman throws her hair up hastily—and finds the results to be miraculously chic. Inspired by this phenomenon, and the minimalist styles of the ’90s, hairstylist Sam McKnight crafted an array of loose knotted and ponytail styles that were collaborative and highly individual. “I’m asking each girl: How do you usually wear your hair when you throw it up?” explained McKnight, who gave Hadid a duo of buns, while sculpting a single twist for sister Gigi. “Everyone does it differently!” Seeking to give each girl’s natural texture an “unbrushed, static kind of feel,” he shook out Sara Grace’s strawberry blonde lengths with his fingertips and sprayed his Lazy Girl Dry Shampoo on the roots before tying her hair up in a disheveled asymmetrical knot.

From the Euphoria mania-stoking glitter eyes to the cool and not overthought hair, the not-so-subtle subtext was clear: Don’t overthink it and have fun—all night long.
