Glenn Close Proves She's an Oscar Contender in Exclusive Scene from ‘The Wife’

We’ve seen Glenn Close play a lawyer in Damages and a stalker in Fatal Attraction, but this new role may be her deepest to date.

Entertainment Weekly recently obtained an exclusive scene from the upcoming film The Wife, which tells the real-life story of a famous author, Joe Castleman, and his wife, Joan, who travel to Stockholm to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.

In the clip, Joan (Close) returns home only to be scolded by her husband, Joe (Jonathan Pryce), demanding to know why she “disappeared on me like this.” Although she tries to explain herself, Joe reprimands her for smelling like smoke and drinking vodka during the day (oh, to be retired). But as it turns out, Joan isn’t the only one with secrets.

*Sniff, sniff* Is that an Oscar nom we smell? The Wife hits theaters on August 17.
