These Glass Houses Have an Outdoor Tub Overlooking Chile’s Wine Country

Chile’s Millahue Valley is located about two hours’ drive south of the capital city of Santiago. It’s a winemaker’s paradise whose name translates to “place of gold” from the native Mapundungun language.

And, with the opening of a unique new hotel, the valley is becoming a destination for seekers of luxury — and good vino.

For the past 15 years, husband-and-wife duo Alex and Carrie Vik have been building a mini-empire in the Millahue Valley. First, it was Vina Vik wines. Then it was a hotel called Vik Chile. Now, it’s 19 glass houses called Puro Vik overlooking the valley.

Puro Vik is the elevated luxury experience guests can book for a “transparent” experience in the valley. Three walls are entirely floor-to-ceiling glass, providing uninterrupted panoramas of the valley landscape.

Each of the 19 glass bungalows is decorated in its own theme, with influences as diverse as 18th-century France, 19th-century Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige, and mid-20th-century pop art.

The glass houses are designed as a romantic suite for two, starting at $1,100 per night. The freestanding bathtub sits on the veranda and is one of the main draws of the accommodation. “Ideally, guests should two take baths a day,” Alex told CNN Travel. “One in the morning and another at sunset with their partners while they're drinking glasses of wine.”

Guests at Puro Vik can eat gourmet Chilean cuisine at the restaurant located a five-minute walk away, dissolve away troubles at the Wine Spa or get a glimpse at the winemaking process on the vineyards of Vina Vik.

Oh, and in case you’re worried about that old saying about glass houses: all the rooms have black-out blinds.
