Unlike looks that sacrifice hair health, a super-shiny style can be achieved only when hair is in tip-top shape.

How to get glass hair in 3 steps

Want glass hair for yourself? Here’s the plan, according to hair pros.

1Hydrate gently.

Before you shower, apply a preshampoo deep conditioner, like Jess & Lou 5 Minute ResQ Hair Therapy, to dry hair. After five minutes, rinse and follow your usual shampoo-and-conditioner routine.

When you get out of the shower, skip the cotton towel—hair gets caught in the fibers, which roughs up the cuticle layer, and will ruin your glass hair look, Townsend says. Opt for a microfiber towel, like Aquis Lisse Luxe Hair Towel, to absorb moisture without causing extra friction.

2Block frizz.

When hair is still damp, apply a styling cream, like Oribe Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream. Then blow-dry with an ionic dryer and a mixed-bristle round brush, like Spornette G-36XL Porcupine Brush.

3Add heat.

Before you smooth your hair into glassy perfection, spritz Dove Smooth & Shine Heat Protection Spray. Then flatiron hair in small sections.

“When you do huge sections, the iron hits only the top and bottom layers and never reaches the strands in the middle,” Townsend says.

To seal the glass hair look, spritz a shine spray or a flexible-hold hairspray like IGK 1-800-Hold-Me onto a paddle brush, then pull it through hair to distribute product evenly.
