Last May, Chinese actress and singer Esther Yu was named brand ambassador in China. Gen Z celebrities Fan Chengcheng and Nana Ouyang were appointed China brand ambassadors two years ago, however, Ouyang’s partnership with the brand ended last year.

“Givenchy has a long history and always been very charming in my impression. I am delighted to be joining the Givenchy family and look forward to more collaborations with the brand in the future,” Li said following the appointment.

Li, the 51-year-old actress, gained global recognition for her roles in the the Hollywood historical drama Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, as well as the American Chinese thriller “The Meg,” which also starred Jason Statham.

In recent years, Li shifted her focus from acting to environmental causes. Li is an ambassador for WWF Earth Hour, a Goodwill ambassador of the United Nations Environment Programme and the Shanghai World Expo Charity ambassador.

Li has more than 42 million fans on Weibo, the popular Chinese social media platform. Before being named China brand ambassador, Li also made a cameo in Givenchy’s Year of the Dragon Lunar New Year campaign earlier this year.

Li has previously worked with Gucci first as a China ambassador, then a global ambassador during the label’s Frida Giannini era.
