The gorgeous pair, who celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary in February, said there was an immediate spark when they met, but how did the Bündchen-Brady romance unfold?

According to the Brazilian supermodel, they met through a mutual friend in 2006. In an interview in the May 2009 Vanity Fair, Bündchen said it was something like love at first sight, even though the NFL star (and 2018 ESPY winner for Best NFL player) was taken at the time.

Bündchen had ended her relationship with actor Leonardo DiCaprio in 2005, but Brady was still dating actress Bridget Moynahan when he first started seeing Gisele. The undeniable connection was there, Bündchen recalled in the Vanity Fair interview: The moment I saw him, he smiled and I was like, That is the most beautiful, charismatic smile I’ve ever seen! … From the first day we met, we’ve never spent one day without speaking to each other.

Their romance quickly started heating up, but a few months into the relationship, Brady’s ex revealed that she was pregnant with his child. “It was definitely a surprise for both of us,” Bündchen said.

In January 2009, Brady popped the question! Bündchen recently revealed, in a video interview accompanying the July 2018 Vogue magazine cover story about her, that her future husband proposed at her apartment. He pranked her by saying her place was flooded and they needed to run over there, stat — smooth Brady!

The following month, they got married in a small, private ceremony in Santa Monica, Calif. Brady told GQ in November 2009 that the wedding took about 10 days to plan and only included close family members. They also celebrated with a second ceremony in Costa Rica, in April 2009. I just love having to come home to someone that engages me … makes me laugh,” Brady said.

Later that year, in December, they welcomed their son Benjamin. In 2012, their daughter, Vivian, was born.

With that 10-year marriage milestone ahead of them next year, Bündchen shared her advice for a lasting relationship in the Vogue video interview: “Keep an open and loving communication.”
