How Gisele Keeps Her Home—and Her Kids—Eco-Conscious

Gisele Bündchen, Vogue's July Issue cover star, reveals how she's made her natural, green lifestyle a family affair.

As a goodwill ambassador to the UN's Environment Programme, Gisele Bündchen is a full-fledged eco-activist. And, by the sound of it, her children will be following in her footsteps.

In Vogue’s July cover story, the model reveals how she’s making green living a family affair. “Gisele is focused on teaching her children—Ben, age eight, and Vivian, age five—to garden, to show them the pleasure of a thing in its proper season, to instill a patience that digital culture undermines at every turn. They compost. They keep bees,” writes Rob Haskell. (Although beekeeping may sound like an obscure activity, it’s one that has gained noticeable traction over the last couple years—millennial Hilary Kearney, for example, is spreading the beekeeping gospel over Instagram.)

Gisele believes that working in a garden gives her children essential life lessons: about responsibility, adaptation, and the cycle of life. “Nature is the biggest teacher,” she says.

It’s not just her children getting into the environmentally-friendly spirit, however. Haskell discovers that Gisele's husband, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, is also strictly reusing, reducing, and recycling—even using a lemon tincture in lieu of bottled flavored water. And Ben and Vivian make sure he doesn’t lapse. “They’re the little defenders,” Gisele says. Clearly her environmentalism efforts have paid off.
