Gisele Bündchen’s mother has reportedly died following a battle with cancer, according to multiple media reports. Vânia Nonnenmacher Bündchen was 75.

The supermodel’s mother was taken to Hospital Moinhos de Vento in Brazil on Jan. 26, the hospital said in a public news bulletin. The private hospital, which is located in Porto Alegre, announced her death on Sunday.

Details regarding what kind of cancer Vânia was fighting and how long ago she was diagnosed were not released. Gisele had not publicly commented on the reports by the time of writing.

Vânia was retired but used to work for a Brazilian bank, according to local media outlet GZH. Vânia and her husband, Valdir Bündchen, had six daughters altogether, including Gisele and her fraternal twin, Patricia.

Gisele, who began her professional modeling career in the mid-1990s, once appeared with her mother on the cover of what Gisele described at the time as a “very special” edition of Vogue Brazil, titled “Vogue Roots.” The black-and-white cover photo showed a smiling Gisele pressing her cheek against her mother’s forehead as both women closed their eyes.

In a 2018 Instagram post celebrating that shared Vogue Brazil cover, Gisele wrote that it “feels so good to be with” her mother and to “reconnect with my essence, my origins, to nature.”

Gisele more recently gave a special tribute to her mother in recognition of Vânia’s birthday during the summer of 2022. The seven-photo post on Instagram included throwback photos from when Gisele was a kid and more recent photos of their extended family.

“I am forever grateful for all that you have done and continue to do for us,” Gisele wrote in the July 2022 post. “Thank you for always loving, inspiring and teaching us. Thank you for giving me life! Love you so much!”

A wake for Vânia will reportedly be held in Porto Alegre at the Ecumenical Chapel of the Metropolitan Crematorium on Monday, Jan. 29, according to GHZ.
