Girl With No Job Claudia Oshry Marries Ben Soffer in New York Wedding: See the First Photos

Boy With No Job and Girl With No Job are now married with no jobs! Claudia Oshry and Ben Soffer, the dynamic duo behind both wildly-popular Instagram accounts, married Sunday, September 17, in a traditional-yet-trendy New York City wedding, which they reveal exclusively to The Knot.

“It was great. My feet are killing me,” says the bride, who started Girl With No Job on Tumblr during her freshman year at NYU. “I definitely felt like it was my night. I made a conscious decision not to drink, just because I wanted to be in a really clear state of mind and remember everything. I looked around the room, like, a hundred times, and the little elements with the people—that made me super happy. I just wanted to be present.”

Even after the wedding, both Oshry, 23, and Soffer, 25, continued to relish in the moment. “We couldn’t get over it. We kept calling each other ‘husband’ and ‘wife,’” she says. “I kept using the word ‘husband’ in a superfluous way. Like, we were checking into the hotel and I was like, ‘Oh, my HUSBAND made a reservation.’”

Despite building their empire on platforms like Instagram, the couple opted for an unplugged ceremony, gently nudging their guests to stay off their phones. “I wanted people to be present, and they really respected that decision,” she says. “It made a big difference in the feeling of the ceremony.” Oshry’s mother escorted her down the aisle until they reached the intricate, floral-embellished chuppah. “Josh and I spent hours designing different options,” the bride says of event designer Joshua Spiegel of Birch Event Design. “What we landed on was so remarkable and different.”

Like most weddings, however, Oshry’s day was greeted with a snafu of sorts. “I don’t really know what it was, but there was a huge delay in the flower shipment because of Hurricane Irma,” she says. “I was affected in New York by Hurricane Irma. Everything just worked out fine… Beyond that point, I was just calm. I let the team handle it and they did.”

The highlight of the evening took place after the couple broke the glass and the Sephardic Boys Choir took to the stage. “Sometimes, the ceremony you do to get it out of the way, but for me, it was the pinnacle of the night,” Oshry concludes. “It was fun—me and Ben both made speeches to each other that were funny and intimate and really personal—and that made me feel really good.”

Below, Oshry gives The Knot the full rundown of details from the ceremony, the reception and more.

The Venue

The wedding ceremony and reception were both held at Angel Orensanz in Manhattan. “It’s a former synagogue which made it even more special for us,” she says. “New York can be so expensive, so look at venues in different neighborhoods. You’ll be surprised by what you find. Our venue was this hidden treasure in the middle of the Lower East Side.”

The Traditions

The couple, who first met at a party in college, wanted a Jewish wedding. “Our ceremony was very traditionally orthodox, but we really wanted to include vows—which isn’t super common in religious Jewish weddings,” she says. “Ben and I both felt it was important to include a moment, in front of everyone we love, and explain to one another why we’re here.”

The Event Designer

The couple enlisted the help of Birch Event Design, a luxury floral and decor company based in Brooklyn, New York. “Our venue was so dramatic and gothic-looking that we had to be super careful with our decor,” notes the bride. “We didn’t want to over do it. Neither of us know much about interior design or floral arrangements, so we really left it in the hands of our designer Josh Spiegel. He is a genius. This really was the one element where both Ben and I took a step back and let the professionals handle it.”

The Event Planner

The couple’s planner, Debbie Kahn of AGI Events, was a throwback from Oshry’s pre-teen years. “The moment I got engaged, I called Debbie Kahn, who actually planned my bat mitzvah,” the Instagram influencer recalls. “She’s so calming and organized. I knew I needed to book her the moment I could… My planning experience was a lot. I had a full-time, amazing planner, but I had a hard time letting go of control. So I was really involved in all the nitty gritty details.”

The Photographer

New York City-based photographer Anthony Vazquez captured the evening’s affairs. The couple thankfully had some practice with Vazquez during their engagement session on New York City’s Upper West Side. “In the beginning, it was definitely uncomfortable for us,” Oshry previously said of the shoot. “But Anthony, the photographer, is so funny, and Ben was cracking jokes in my ear.”

The Dress

“From the day I was born, I knew I wanted the dress to be long sleeves,” Oshry jokes. “I actually started designing a custom dress nine months before my wedding, and went in for my first fitting in July and was left in tears. It was awful.” However, everything worked out. The bride ultimately chose a long-sleeve, lace gown by Oleg Cassini, which she paired with a dramatic veil. Asked to describe her bridal look in three words or less, Girl With No Job responds: “Kate F**king Middleton.”

The Groom’s Look

Soffer suited up in a custom piece by Karako Custom, which included one particularly personal detail. “Our new married names were stitched above his inside pocket jacket,” Oshry says. “We also stitched ‘Property of Claudia’ on his fly.”

The Bridal Party

The bride and groom had about eight to nine bridesmaids and groomsmen on each side. The ladies accompanied Oshry down the aisle in blush gowns from the White by Vera Wang collection found in David’s Bridal. “I love when there is a real cohesiveness with bridesmaids, but sometimes it can be too cohesive,” she says. “So I loved that they all wore different dresses in the same exact shade of blush.”

The groomsmen, meanwhile, rallied around the groom in black tuxes with matching bowties. “They looked like little penguins,” she says. “It was adorable.”

The First Dance

The pair opted to dance their way into marriage to the tune of “Yours” by Russell Dickerson. “We love country, and not many of our friends do,” the bride says. “Instead of filling the set list up with country songs that nobody knew, we took a moment to listen to one of our favorite songs.”

The Music

The Sephardic Boys Choir provided ceremony entertainment for the couple and their 275 guests. “A month before the wedding, we completely changed our ceremony music,” she says. “We had heard about this choir comprised of young kids who sing Hebrew music and we fell in love with the idea… They are so talented and so cute, I’m so glad we did it.”

Element Music LLC took over the reception with a live band that played a range of hits. “We had a band the entire time. I happen to think it makes for a much more exciting party,” Oshry says. “They were amazing—from rap to pop to country to old school—they nailed it and kept the crowd going all night long.”

The Guests

“The majority of the guest list was comprised of our friends,” says Oshry. “It was a young, fun wedding so we wanted the colors to reflect that.” In turn, the guest list played a large role in influencing the wedding colors. “We had pinks, blues and purples in the lighting, the flowers and all the decor,” she adds. “It was fun and it was bright.”

The bride, an avid Bachelor franchise fan, invited friends Amanda Stanton and Corinne Olympios to the life event.

The Favors

In true “no job” style, the couple thoughtfully gave their guests hangover gifts to nurse their memories Monday morning. “It came with a mini Smirnoff bottle, a bottle of bloody mary mix, and a packet of Advil,” she says. “Everything you need for the morning after.”

The Menu

“I intentionally wanted to fill everyone up with food and drinks, so by the time the reception started, they were fully ready to dance,” Oshry says. The couple worked with Chef’s Table Catering to craft mouthwatering dishes. (Minted printed the physical menus.) “I loved the menus because they were dual purpose,” Oshry says. “One side was a menu and the other was a ‘bencher,’ which is a Jewish prayer you say after eating.”

The Cake

Brooklyn-based bakery L’estis Desserts designed an upscale cake for the lavish affair. “Our cake was so over the top,” Oshry says.

The Honeymoon

The couple will wait to enjoy their honeymoon, because it’s back to work for the spouses with no jobs. “This wedding has taken so much time and energy out of me that I need to go back to work soon,” Oshry admits. “We’ve kind of pocketed the honeymoon, we’re going to save it for later when we really need a vacation.”

Despite the exhaustion, Oshry says she felt an “inexplicable excitement” and a “clean slate” upon being pronounced husband and wife. “The thing I love most about Ben is his uncanny ability to be empathic,” she says of her husband. “He is always, without a doubt, so caring and loving. It’s something I can’t relate to but truly appreciate.”

And when it comes down to the wedding day? “I was overwhelmed, overjoyed and shook,” she concludes.
