Gilmore Girls Might Get a Second Season on Netflix, but There’s a Catch

Lauren Graham says she and Alexis Bledel have not yet been approached for a second Netflix reunion—and another show’s pickup will make more *Gilmore* even tougher.

Oy, with the silence already! It’s actually only been a few months since Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life dropped on Netflix in November, but fans are still already hungry for a follow-up. Now they can rest assured that another season is a definite possibility—though there might be a catch.

Netflix’s chief content officer expressed the streaming giant’s enthusiasm for the idea over the weekend, adding that “very preliminary” talks about another season had already taken place with Sherman-Palladino and her husband and co-creator, Dan Palladino. Is this a guarantee of future episodes? Certainly not. But at least the streaming giant is considering the possibility, as are countless Gilmore fans.

Truthfully, the biggest obstacle to getting a second installment made might be scheduling. Lauren Graham, one half of the titular duo, has two new TV gigs potentially lined up: a starring role in Fox’s new comedy pilot, Linda from HR, which has yet to be picked up to series; and a recurring role on the upcoming season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Milo Ventimiglia now stars on the runaway success This Is Us, while Jared Padalecki continues to hunt down the occult in the CW’s Supernatural. Sherman-Palladino, too, has a new project: Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which will debut on March 17 as part of Amazon’s spring pilot slate. And let’s not even start trying to imagine what Melissa McCarthy’s schedule might be like.

For now, a second return to Stars Hollow might just be a twinkle in fans’—and Netflix’s—eye. Then again, a town full of eccentric people is a terrible thing to waste.
