The 2022 Met Gala red carpet would've been significantly better if the full cast of HBO's The Gilded Age attended in their costumes.

However, three Gilded Age stars were in attendance: Christine Baranski, Louisa Jacobson, and Denée Benton. As they left the Met Gala, Baranski, who plays Agnes Van Rhijn, reunited with Jacobson, who plays her niece, Marian Brook, for a sweet photo.

Baranski celebrated her 70th birthday at the Met Gala, and wore a custom Thom Browne suit for her debut on the Met carpet. She completed her look with Fred Leighton and Kwiat jewelry, and she looked extremely regal in sunglasses indoors:

"I’m wearing big Thom Browne sunglasses so I can ogle people without them knowing I’m looking at them," Baranski told the New York Times with a laugh. She explicitly did not want to wear a corset or a gigantic ball gown, because she's spent long days filming in costumes like that.

So, she enjoyed feeling "more like a gentleman in the Gilded Age than a lady," adding, "I always preferred men’s tailoring in fashion to women’s."

Like Baranski, Jacobson also made her Met Gala debut last night, wearing Schiaparelli and David Webb jewelry.

According to her stylist Edward Bowleg III, Jacobson's outfit was inspired by an 1882 John Singer Sargent painting titled "Lady with the Rose," a portrait of Charlotte Louise Burckhardt that is on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art:

Last but certainly not least of the Gilded Age stars of the Met was Denée Benton, also making her debut at the event. She wore Mimi So jewelry, and a Prabaral Gurung dress, and completely followed the "Gilded Glamour" dress code:
