Gigi Hadid Wants McDonald’s Gift Cards for Her Birthday
Gigi Hadid isn’t just a model, she’s a giver. The 19-year-old, who will turn 20 on April 23, hasn’t requested for her birthday what you’d expect from the daughter of a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, step-daughter of one of the most accomplished music producers in the world, girlfriend of Cody Simpson, and BFF of Kendall Jenner. Instead of a new car, clothes, or jewels, Hadid wants McDonald’s gift cards. Yes, you read that right, and no, she’s doesn’t want them so she can binge on Big Macs and McFlurries (she’s a model after all, she eats only greens and quinoa). Instead, she intends to hand them out to the homeless she spots on the streets of New York City.

Being blonde, young, and beautiful, Hadid might have a reputation for being self-involved, vapid, and unintelligent (all stereotypes accorded to women in her profession) but this ask of her more than 3 million followers on Instagram and Twitter is not only selfless but smart.
According to a report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, six out of ten homeless individuals admitted to having issues with alcohol or drugs and giving cash can fuel these problems. That’s why many urge that if one wants to help those on the streets, give to aid organizations that can properly distribute means and provide shelter, or food. Hadid, who spends most of her time in New York City where, of the more than 8 million residents, there are about 52,000 homeless men, women, and children, most likely encounters many wildly less fortunate than her on a daily basis and having gift cards on hand has the potential to help.
While Hadid most likely wouldn’t be caught consuming that many calories in one sitting, it’s admirable of her to think of others. As a celebrity with a devoted fanbase, many admirers will send unsolicited gifts. With this directive to her followers for food gift cards instead of stuff, she could most likely obtain enough to last her until her next birthday and beyond.
Gigi Hadid is so much more than meets the eye. Who would’ve thought?!
