Gigi Hadid is very much here for cyclical fashion trends. "It’s so fun to see swimwear trends coming back around," the star of Victoria Secret's new Escape to Summer campaign tells InStyle. "Victoria's Secret is bringing back some archive swim styles and getting to revisit them with a new lens is making me fall back in love."

If anyone knows what it means to love a swimsuit, it's Hadid. Not only has the Guest in Residence founder starred in countless swim campaigns, but she's designed them as well. Her 2022 capsule collection, created in collaboration with Frankie's Bikinis, was so popular that more drops followed. And as the face of Victoria's Secret's latest campaign, Hadid is certainly in her element.

The Escape to Summer collection, available on April 17, features swimsuits, cover-ups, and ready-to-wear separates like corset tops. The collection's '90s and early aughts-inspired silhouettes are among the returning styles that Hadid is most excited to wear poolside. "The monokini felt so flattering to wear for this new campaign," she says. "I also love seeing bright pops of color, print, high-cut and cheeky bottoms, and fun details all here to stay in 2024."

Given Hadid's expertise in the swimsuit department, it's not surprising that she can't pick a single favorite swimsuit style. "I choose my swimwear based on what my day in the water looks like," she says. "If I’m going to be playing in the sand with my daughter or playing volleyball, I'd reach for a supportive set or one piece with more coverage. But if I have time to tan, and want to look cute, I love something colorful, patterned, and cheeky."

While her go-to summer swimsuit might change day by day, Hadid's standards when it comes to swimwear are uncompromising. "I look for good fit and details, prints, or cuts that stand out to me or would work for my life," Hadid says. "Fit, comfort, and style are different for everyone and I think it’s important to find what works for you, then buy it in every color."

Color is alive and well in the Escape to Summer collection, which suits Hadid's style. Rather than chasing the season's It shades, Hadid takes a more personal approach. "It depends on my mood," she says. "Swimsuits can be so expressive. This collection has some really fun prints like cheetah, but I will really wear any color swimsuit if the cut and fit are right for me."

Hadid's go-to way of accessorizing swimsuits include "a baseball hat, sunglasses, and layered necklaces." She adds, "I love how the Escape to Summer campaign is all about not needing to actually go very far from home to accomplish that summertime feeling."

And while you may imagine her ideal summer getaway is somewhere idyllic like the Maldives, she's much more low-key. "My ideal summer 'escape' is escaping the East Coast heat by spending the afternoon with my daughter in the pool," she says. Their perfect summer day itinerary would include "having friends over, running in the sprinklers, crafting, and going to our local spot for hot dogs and milkshakes."

As for capturing the perfect swimsuit selfie, Hadid has got you covered with the perfect tips. "Good natural light!" she says. "Try standing both in and out of direct light while facing the sun to see what looks better for that time of day."
