Wearing all black is a classic, and easy, outfit choice; Mix and match your favorite pieces and there’s no worrying about clashing or coordinating (unless you’re OCD about your shades of black matching). It can be timeless and chic, but the colorless look can sometimes lead one astray, too—perhaps it turns out too bland, or too gothic, à la Hot Topic teens. But worn like a true supermodel, such as Gigi Hadid this weekend, and the all-black aesthetic suddenly feels fresh again. (Even in the height of summer.) The trick? It’s all in the styling.
Stepping out in New York City this weekend, Hadid wore black in a cool, no-fuss way. She paired classic black items like a spaghetti-strap tank and ripped jeans, styling them with on-theme accessories: A python-printed belt and pointed cowboy boots, which gave her look a slight western feel. To elevate the whole ensemble, she wore a black cardi off-the-shoulder, a mini top handle Versace bag, and tiny little sunglasses, one of her signature finishing touches.
