Gigi Hadid Might Be Getting Sued by the Paparazzi Over an Instagram Post

She’s using the moment to speak out against the toxic culture.

Gigi Hadid announced that she may be getting sued for using a paparazzi photo on Instagram. Instead of just removing the image and staying quiet, however, the model is speaking out about the invasive nature of the industry as a whole.

Gigi posted a long statement to the social media on Thursday night, stating, “Yesterday I heard from my management that I am being “legally pursued” for my last now deleted Instagram post. The photo is by a Paparazzi & is one of me on the street outside an event last week.” She adds, “I posed/smiled for the photo because I understand that this is part of my job, this was an appropriate situation for ‘the press’ to attend, and also that this is how paparazzi make a living.” Gigi talks about how those photographers make a living off of putting her in danger, saying, “These people make money off us everyday, LEGALLY stalking us day in and day out – for nothing special – for us to walk six feet to a car and six feet into a work building. They drive dangerously close and extremely recklessly; they put the general public in danger in pursuit of a photo.”

The toxic nature of paparazzi catching celebrity's every move is something that friend and fellow model Kendall Jenner knows all too well. The day prior to Gigi's post, Kendall tweeted about how photos and comments about where she lives make her feel unsafe in her home, especially after she has had multiple stalkers break in. She replied to the report from TMZ, saying, “i understand what i’ve signed up for but when you release the exact location to where i live THAT is when you’re putting my life in danger. your home is your safe haven, but for me, cuz of outlets like you, my home is anything BUT. you should be ashamed of yourself,” adding, “and how do you guys think these terrifying people know where my house is? cuz you release not only photos but my location. it is so beyond unsafe. is this not our one ounce of privacy we can get??? ....”

In Gigi’s original Instagram post, which you can read in full below, she adds that she found the un-credited image on Twitter and “I had no way of knowing which of the 15+ photographers outside that day took these exact photos; if the person had just commented on my photo I would have been happy to tag and give you credit.”

While Gigi had been getting an outpouring of support from fans, fellow celebrities have joined them as well. As captured by Instagram account @commentsbycelebs, Kylie Jenner says, “👏. We’re “public figures” and it’s legal for them to invade our privacy. It’s pretty disappointing 😞 we gotta change this.” Bella added, ‘Well said sister ! Thank you”

The photographer has yet to respond to Gigi's post.
