Gift of Glamor Prom Expo offers South Side high schoolers free dresses, helpful resources

CHICAGO — A South Side nonprofit is helping high school girls feel beautiful at their prom while making sure they have a safe and memorable night.

200 dresses, each one donated, help make the girl’s prom dreams come true.

When I put it on, I was like ‘Yes this is gorgeous,’ Martinique Neal, a prom dress recipient said. Not everyone has the money to be able to buy prom dresses, so I feel like this is a great opportunity for a lot of people.”

The Gift of Glamor Prom Expo took place at Perspectives/IIT Math & Science Academy on Saturday. It was the 10th year of the giveaway but the first time the girls walked away with a dress and resources.

Alongside the dresses, the expo featured programs on how to walk in heels, hair and makeup tips, and information on summer jobs and college scholarships.

The event also featured a seminar on how to stay safe on prom night.
