A Giant Possum-Eating Spider Is Here to Haunt Your Dreams
Most people would agree that spiders are pretty icky. But, in general, you can get yourself to chill TF out when you see one by reminding yourself that you’re way bigger and stronger than they are.
Well, this spider kinda blows that theory out of the water.
A woman named Justine Latton recently shared two super freaky pics of a spider doing some next-level stuff to a public Facebook group called "Tasmanian Insects and Spiders.” The group is dedicated to talking about insects and spiders in Tasmania, a huge island off of the southern coast of Australia.
Apparently spiders are on steroids there, because Justine shared photos of a huntsman spider eating a freaking possum.
Here’s the backstory: Justine’s husband and a friend were fixing a door at an old ski lodge when they spotted a huntsman spider.
In case you’re not familiar with huntsman spiders, they’re every arachnophobe’s worst nightmare. They have a body length of about an inch, and a leg span that’s up to five inches, according to the University of Florida, with some that are as big as the palm of your hand.
But back to that spider in Tasmania…Latton’s husband and his buddy saw the huntsman spider hanging from the top of a door with a dead pygmy possum in its fangs. To be fair, a pygmy possum is a small possum and a huntsman spider is a freaking huge spider, but you still probably don’t want to run into one of these in a dark alley. No word on whether the men wet their pants, but you can only imagine the terror they felt.
BTW: Huntsman spiders also live in subtropical areas of Florida, Texas, and California, and in coastal areas of Georgia and South Carolina, so…yeah. Suddenly, that little spider you saw in your bathroom isn't so freaky, huh?
