Making gigantic versions of America's favorite foods might be my calling. Remember the Giant Party Sub or our five-pound breakfast sandwich? Yours truly was the crazy one that built those. Before sharing another savory monstrosity (don't worry, one's still coming soon), I thought we could all use a BIG 'ole dessert break. Would anyone like a slice of this Giant Oreo Cake?

This "cake" part is really just two huge chocolate cookies filled with Oreo creme. Okay fine, it' not really Oreo cream. We didn't scrape a thousand cookies clean to form a big enough sugar mass. But the filling really tastes like the real deal. (We did many side-by-side taste tests to be sure.) The secret formula is simply a combination of butter, shortening, powdered sugar and vanilla. The shortening helps make the icing super thick and sturdy enough to hold the weight of the massive cookie on top.

Since we're going for the taste and texture of the classic sandwich cookie, not a Cakester, the cookies are more crumbly than chewy or soft. They're basically the biggest chocolate wafers you'll ever make, which means the dough should be super sandy. You'll need to press it into the pans very compactly for the layers to hold together. To create an even more authentic Oreo appearance, press the tines of a fork around the edges of the cakes.

While we wouldn't recommend dunking the entire thing in milk as we did (the cookie will fall apart!), we highly encourage a tall ice-cold glass of milk to go with your slice. Wear your milk mustache with pride.
