Described as the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, Dumb Money is based on the true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning video game retailer GameStop into the world's hottest company.

In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.

A giant hand made of bespoke one-hundred-dollar bills was placed into London's financial district last week to flip the middle finger to the top 1%.

Director Craig Gillespie said in a Q&A at the Toronto Internationl Film Festival that he was experiencing the GameStop saga in real time through his son, who picked the right time with the options.

Expressing that he wanted to "represent the different people that were involved" in the foray, he noted that "there were people that were very bullish about really sticking it to Wall Street and making a statement and wanting to be heard".

The move to place this in one of London's richest areas matches the energy of those who went head to head with the richest of the rich back in 2021.
