Giambattista Valli Keeps the Garden Party Going for Spring 2024

I'm sorry to say it again, but "florals for spring" continue to pop up in collections this fashion month. It's not my fault — it's the designers'. But at least they are making an effort to explore botanical themes in unexpected (if not groundbreaking) ways, whether it's through interesting materials like leather and porcelain, or more abstract references, like focusing on the general shapes of stems and petals.
For Giambattista Valli's Spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection, the designer (who also focused on florals in his most recent couture outing) showed his signature feminine dresses with precise, almost photorealistic imagery of flora and fauna — sparse prints, embroideries and brocades that feel more scientific than romantic, but pretty nonetheless. Paisley is also a common motif, done in ultra-delicate white lace. In a few instances, the designer took the floral theme 3D, via one or a few large rosettes (also seen in couture) near the busts of gowns.
Elsewhere, monochromatic dresses let color and craftsmanship shine; the designer focused on a few shades of pink and green, from the pale and subtle to the rich and bold. Otherwise, black and white make up the majority of the collection. The effect is quiet, but not boring — an ideal wardrobe for a fancy, civilized garden party.
