Giada De Laurentiis Vs. Julianne Hough: Whose Smoothie Is Better?

From Delish

Forget that it's cold out - once January hits, smoothie season begins again! Ambitious New Year's resolutioners everywhere are buying smoothies like their lives (or waistlines) depend on it. While this blended addiction is, in theory, healthy (some smoothies are loaded with sugar!), it also can be pretty dang expensive. Especially when it's so easy to blend your own. Which is what led us to this edition of Celebrity Snackdown.

Choosing the two recipes was difficult. So many celebrities have shared their smoothie secrets. Ultimately, we decided on Giada De Laurentiis, because know for a fact our fans love her healthy recipes, and Julianne Hough, because her go-to allegedly tastes like apple pie. APPLE PIE! Here's how the two stacked up.

GIADA'S RECIPE

The Food Network star's Double-Berry Smoothie recipe all the right notes. It's quick, easy, and approachable. Plus, it's not green (though there's baby spinach), which can be majorly off-putting some.

Giada promises that you won't be able to taste the spinach, and she's right. But you may get a hint of other veggies depending on the green juice you use (ours was heavy on the celery!). We found this ingredient a bit annoying, considering you only need a 1/4 cup and green juice can be expensive. Skip it if you agree.

What we loved: the fresh mint! It adds a ton of brightness that makes her recipe stand out from most other berry smoothies.

JULIANNE'S RECIPE

Full disclaimer: This is not Julianne Hough's own recipe. It's just one of her favorites. Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak thought up the concotion, which is a blend of apples, Greek yogurt, almonds (only 5!), a frozen banana, and cinnamon. In theory, it's supposed to taste like apple pie.

The comparison is a major stretch. The cinnamon helps achieve that vibe, but more than anything, the drink tasted mostly like heavily spiced (and blended) Greek yogurt.

THE VERDICT

Giada wins! Her smoothie is way more refreshing, no one complained about the spinach, and everyone loved the mint.
