Getting the Viral Mob Wife Look In Your Home Is Easier Than You Might Think

You can never go wrong with faux fur and animal prints.

If you’ve spent any time on TikTok or Instagram over the last few weeks, you’ve likely seen an increased interest surrounding The Soprano’s Carmela Soprano or Casino’s Sharon Stone, clad in fur coats, animal prints, black leather, and smokey eye makeup. It’s being hailed as the “mob wife” aesthetic, and the hashtag on TikTok already has nearly 158 million views. As trends tend to go, you could consider this a natural progression as social media moves away all things “clean girl” and “quiet luxury."

“I’m personally really excited to have a break from the clean girl aesthetic. I was getting so bored," Haus Labs global artistry director Sarah Tanno told Allure. “The mob wife aesthetic has a feeling of unbothered glamour. I think it’s trending because women like feeling powerful and glamorous.”

There are plenty of ways to use your interior design to subtly (or not so subtly) give a nod to this new style. It’s true that the majority of the inspiration depends upon the physical attributes of some of the most famous mob wife characters in TV and film. But the traits that make this trend so popular can be easily translated from your clothes and into your home.

For instance, faux fur isn’t just worn—it’s also a great accessory for your home. If you want a more maximalist mob wife vibe in your space, toss out a few faux fur throw blankets and leopard print pillows.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that we’ll be seeing more leopard this year—partly thanks to the mob wife, but it was also one of the top predictions stylists got from runways. Expect to see the print everywhere in 2024—on lamps, rugs, furniture, and more. This aesthetic really relies on your ability to mix animal patterns, whether you're framing prints of zebra stripes or displaying a few mugs featuring cheetah spots.

You can take the style more literally and peer into the homes of the most infamous mob wife characters to replicate their design and aesthetic: The Soprano’s home, for instance, is decorated in a classic 1990s gaudy, Spanish style, complete with chandeliers and mini pillars. A lot of the mob wives' homes were mini-mansions and decorated as such—you won't find much modesty. Bob Shaw, the production designer of The Sopranos, told the New York Times that he’d call the aesthetic “New Jersey elegant.”

As Robin Black, a makeup artist, photographer, and brand consultant, told Allure, this aesthetic is “all about decadent, self-indulgent glamour.” Find ways to add in some of that indulgence and glamour throughout your day. Like in your kitchen: Begin your morning with little luxuries like flavored simple syrups (store-bought or homemade), and make sure your coffee cart is always stocked with your favorite brews. Or maybe you just want to switch out your wine glasses or mugs for something more elegant and bejeweled. This aesthetic doesn’t have to be fully dependent upon what you display—like many aesthetics, it’s also about the lifestyle.
