Getting Ready With Monsta X for Their Surprise Chanel Performance
Last week, Chanel No.5 hosted its “No.5 In the Snow” winter pop-up in New York City, an immersive experience that transformed the Standard Hotel into a winter wonderland (complete with an ice skating rink, one seriously chic sleigh, and more). To kick off the event, the label hosted a star-studded evening with guests such as Lily-Rose Depp, Kacey Musgraves, and Diane Kruger, who were all surprised with a special performance by K-pop group Monsta X. But before storming the stage, the group’s five stylish members—Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, and I.M.—let Vogue join them as they got ready for the big night. (Their sixth member, Jooheon, was not in attendance at the event.)
The fun-filled evening began with final fittings of their performance looks. The five members tried on a variety of Chanel tweed jackets, cozy après-ski-style puffer jackets, and streamlined blazers with the label’s signature chain piping. They eventually landed on complementary looks in neutral shades of white, gray, and black. “Men in black...[more like] men in Chanel,” quipped Kihyun, who gave his look a snazzy finish with metallic gold high-tops. To finish off the ensembles, the members also added dazzling jewelry, including shining brooches and watches—“wow, really pretty,” said Shownu as he slipped on a timepiece.
Before heading out the door to the event, Monsta X then played a quick round of rapid-fire questions. Vogue asked: Who is the most romantic? The group agreed on I.M. Who sleeps the most? Hyungwon. And who eats the most? That would be Shownu. “He really eats everything except for the wrapper,” joked Kihyun. Then, after taking some disposable-camera pics, they headed out the door, where they proceeded to drink hot cocoa, mingle with fellow celebrities, and take to the stage. “We are here to make this night beautiful,” exclaimed I.M.
