Donatella Versace has become as well known for her sexy designs and loud prints as she has for her signature smoky eye. The platinum blonde designer has owned the look for years, and for Sunday’s spring 2016 Atelier Versace couture show in Milan she enlisted makeup artist Pat McGrath to give her roster of top models that same glam eye.

Using the products from her recent Phantom 002 product launch, McGrath sent Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley down the Versace runway with a Donatella-approved smoky eye. “It is not the black eye of amazing, amazing skill,” McGrath told WWD. “It’s a much easier, fresh approach to glamour.”

To get the look on your own, grab your favorite gel liner (or if you’re lucky enough to have snagged McGrath’s Black Caviar pencil, use that!) and line eyes completely. Use a dark gray or black shadow to get the smoky look on lids (try Urban Decay’s Naked Smoky Eyeshadow Palette, $54, for a range of shade options) and draw the shadow out towards the tail end of your brows — make sure to blend as you go. Smudge a bit of shadow along your lower lash line and add a touch of a shimmer shadow at your inner corner to add dimension. To complete the look, swipe on a few coats of your favorite volumizing mascara (we like NARS Audacious Mascara, $26.) Donatella would definitely approve.
