In Georgia, a ‘True Southern Masterpiece’ Is Aiming for a Record Price
Around nine years after it first hit the market with an impressive $48 million price tag, a sprawling estate in a prime Atlanta neighborhood has popped up for sale again. But you’ll still need a considerable sum of money to pick up the keys to the lavish English Tudor-style mansion, which is now listed for a speck under $47 million.
Should the place go for anywhere near that amount, it would set a record for the most expensive residential real estate transaction ever recorded in the Atlanta metro area—eclipsing the $18.1 million paid for a home in Buckhead’s Tuxedo Park neighborhood in 2021.

Tucked away behind gates and high hedges—in the affluent suburb of Sandy Springs, just outside of Buckhead and minutes from downtown Atlanta—the nearly 19-acre property was purchased by local businessman J.K. MacDonald for a then-record $3.7 million in 1987. The founder of Media Marketing Services, a travel-incentives company, subsequently undertook an extensive renovation and expansion of the premises in the mid-1990s.

There’s also a 2,400-square-foot master retreat that comes complete with an indulgent bath flaunting an onyx vessel tub with an 18-karat gold-plated faucet and a two-level closet with room for more than 200 pairs of shoes.
Elsewhere is a library sporting custom bookshelves and a Baccarat crystal basket light fixture, plus a den holding a private office nook, fitness center, wet bar-equipped garden room and climate-controlled wine cellar that can accommodate up to 1,000 bottles; and outdoors, the manicured grounds are laced with Chestnut oak trees, gardens and French antique statuary, and host a basketball court and baseball setup, along with a saltwater keyhole-shaped swimming pool.
An added bonus, per the listing held by Debbie Leonard Mayer and Eric Peterson of Keller Williams Realty, is one full year of estate-management services.
