Georgia Based Chick-fil-A Uses Another Local Staple To Fry Up Their Original Chicken Sandwich

When you order a delightfully crispy chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A, you're likely thinking about the pickles, the perfectly buttered bun, and the masterfully cooked chicken breast. You're probably not thinking about peanut oil, but this ingredient may very well contribute to why you love this crave-worthy sandwich so.
As described first on Chick-fil-A's blog The Chicken Wire, all pressure-cooked chicken at The Chick is cooked in peanut oil. "It's an ingredient that Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy vouched for ever since he invented his famed Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich," said Jodie Worrell, Chick-fil-A's senior culinary lead for menu and packaging, in the company's blog post. The mild and vaguely nutty flavor of the peanut oil doesn't overwhelm the flavor of the chicken, allowing the seasoning and taste of the chicken to shine through in the sandwich, as The Chicken Wire article relays.
The non-GMO peanuts used to make the peanut oil along with the fact that it's gluten-free, may be a bonus for some diners, though those with peanut allergies are unfortunately out of luck. As for other reasons beyond taste that the restaurant opts for peanut oil? In addition to Truett's fondness of it and its high smoke point, Worrell also says, "In terms of unsaturated fats and healthy fats, peanut oil has a very similar profile as other oils, but it performs better in the fryer." Well, now you know one more secret from Chick-fil-A's kitchen wizards. If you're anything like us, you're also probably hankering for a sandwich right about now, too.
