George W. Bush Brings Pizza to Employees Who 'Are Working Hard for Our Country Without a Paycheck'
The longest government shutdown in history continues this week, and as it stretches on, 800,000 federal employees continue to go unpaid, some of whom are still required to work despite not receiving a paycheck.
The reporters at Voxroughly breaks it down as such:
"As of this past Friday, roughly 800,000 federal employees have missed their first paycheck. About 380,000 employees have been furloughed and another 420,000 are currently working without pay. Congress has already passed a bill that guarantees all federal employees back pay once the shutdown is over, but that does little to help them while it drags into its fourth week."
Former president George W. Bush is trying to do a small part to aid government workers during this difficult time. Earlier today, Bush posted a photo of him offering some federal employees (it's unclear if they are on his Secret Service detail or work for the government in some other capacity) pizza, as a sign of his appreciation for their hard work in a difficult situation.
He also shared a message encouraging both Congress and President Trump to find a way to end the shutdown. "@LauraWBush and I are grateful to our Secret Service personnel and the thousands of Federal employees who are working hard for our country without a paycheck," he wrote.
"And we thank our fellow citizens who are supporting them. It’s time for leaders on both sides to put politics aside, come together, and end this shutdown."
